Astrology

The astrology of Telgard is still heavily ruled by the Church of Telgard, as it is believed that the pattern of stars across the sky is actually the path of Dargotten's Journey through the heavens. Most of the constellations therefore have names from the Pantheon of Dargotten or the Church's saints, although Mirg and Tahnn often substitute their own religious icons and names for the constellations.

There are four moons in Telgard:

* The smallest is known as the "Lost Moon", and is commonly thought to be the last solid remains of Wrythanistan after his impact into Telgard. It is small, erratic in orbit, and a pale green-blue in color. It is never the only moon in the sky, since its erratic orbit is because it is being pulled about by the other moons in turn. Its presence with only one other moon indicates the meaning of that moon but particularly magical in nature...for instance, when present with Shadoweye, it represents bad happenings that are particularly magical.

* A large, dim moon named Shadoweye, a kind of reddish brown color...when it is the only moon that's risen, it give almost no light even when full, and is supersitiously a sign that something bad is about to happen.

* A bright, blue-white moon called Dargotten's Eye, a little larger than Earth's moon. When the only moon in the sky, it heralds a bright near-future. When full, it gives a LOT of light, and many spirits find it as hard to manifest during a full Dargotten's Eye as during the day.

* A smaller moon, a purplish color, called the Mother's Harp...when the only moon in the sky, it heralds a highly fertile time, and farmers and men of the land watch for it. It is believed a planted crop, concieved child or something similar, done under this moon, means the young will become strong.

There is rarely a time when at least two moons are not in the sky, but at the same time there is rarely a time when no moons are in the night sky, or all moons. When no moons are in the sky, it means it's going to be a very quiet night. This happens about every two months. When ALL moons are in the sky, it means things are going to be chaotic and very busy. Again, this happens about once every two months, halfway between the no-moon times.

When all moons are in alignment, it heralds an event of catastrophic proportions, that could be good or bad. This happened at the beginning of the Race wars, when the Minotaurs' homeland became uninhabitable, when the Dark Enemy began gathering his power for the Scourge, and when the Dark Enemy was sealed away. It is not predictable except through prophecy, but it almost never happens.

The God-path:
The god-path is the band of stars that spreads across sky, seemingly as though someone had spilled a white fluid across the sky. It is said by the Church of Telgard that this is the path that Dargotten takes on his journey.
