From
the void grew chaos and law. Chaos and Law mixed, and produced
Imagination, who was Dargotten.
Dargotten
took chaos, and used law to shape it into a vast ocean. He
scooped mud from the bottom of the ocean and created land.
His misty breath formed the clouds and the winds.
Dargotten
grew lonely, and started creating living things. First was
Brewesha, who became his wife and the Nurturer, the Keeper
of the Balance. Into Her hands He gave the power to shape
the WEave of Time to balance all things.
He
next created Faeterna, the Tree of Life. Her limbs were huge
and her leaves silvery. Faeterna was given the power to shape
chaose directly into Life.
Dargotten
then shaped the Grey Lady, Death, and Horathyll, Entroyp,
and deirected tem to snip the threads of the Ewave where necessary
to keep the balance. Above all the others, He set His wife,
who directed each in their tasks. Brewesha spoke to Faeterna,
and from the base of her trunk began sprang multitudes of
creatures, all the creatures that walked the earth and flew
the skies. The earth was nearly overrun, but the Keeper and
Nurturer then directed the grey Lady and Horathyll, who caused
the bindings of law to break away, and the creatures died
and returned to chaos.
The
creatures began compliaining that they could not see. Dargotten
started a fire in the sky, and thus was born Day. He then
took His eye, and created a light for the night. He told the
others that they might sacrifice a part of themselves for
themselves. The Grey Lady and Brewesha declined, but Faeterna
broke off a large knot, which became Faeterna's Harp, and
Horathyll broke off his shadow, which became Shadoweye. Then
they discovered the meaning of Dargotten's words, for as their
moons rose, so too did their power; sacrificed of themselves
for themselves.
From
the vast morasses of Law and Chaos spun another being, who
was Dargotten's Brother. Wrythanistan looked from high above
at his brother's Creation, but lost his grip, and fell to
the earth. His form vaporized, and settled about Dargotten's
Creation, becoming a source of energy. The gods quickly learned
to grasp this energy, a source of power that did not come
from Dargotten but enhanced his creation. A part of the mist
coalesced into a small green ball, that floated high and began
circling the other moons in the sky. It became the Wandering
Moon, the piece of Wrythanistan's spirit that still strove
to find a place from which to view his brother's creation.
Dargotten
was satisfied, and left the Balance in the care of the Brewesha.
He journeyed on, and each star is another of his creations,
and in the constellations can be seen the path he wandered.
When he is finished he will return here, to his first and
best world.
Brewesha
sat beneath Faeterna, and began singing a song of joy to try
to cheer herself for the loss of her husband. Faterna shivered,
and some of her leaves fell. When they struck the earth, Elves
sprang up, dancing to the tune. Being part of Faeterna, they
were part of chaos and so drew on imagination even as Dargotten
and the gods did. Thus was created the first intelligent race.
The
gods mused at this, and watched the elves. The elves learned
of the Song of Life, but their power was much diminished from
Faeterna's. Their intelligence allowed them to tap the vapor
that was Wrythanistan, and they grew in power and numbers
to cover the earth.
The
Grey Lady and Horathyll began complaining that they could
not keep up; the elves learned to avoid sickness and dangerous
areas, and were not so easily killed as non-intelligent creatures.
The gods deliberated, and acted.
Each
creature that then spran forth was a part of Faeterna as the
elves were, ans so had intelligence and magic. Pieces of bark
fell to the earth and became the tough dwarves. Drops of sap
became a race that no one remembers and is now lost, though
their fluid nature made their magic strong. Twigs became the
wiry goblins. Buds became humans, weak but full of potential.
A branch fell and broke into pieces, each piece becoming a
ss'tiss.
Each
race spread out to claim the earth, and the Grey Lady and
Horathyll were satisfied; with the resulting wars and conflicts,
here was the way to contain the intelligent races.
