It is said that magic is the gift of the gods, given as a reward of the life past, to make the next more blessed. If you lead a good life, one of joy, production, and learning, then one talent may be given to you when you are judged true. A life of intentional sorrow, of misused gifts, and of wastfulness will lead to the gods taking away the talents you have earned.

Many beleive that one you have proven your worthiness, your adeptness at handling the gifts of the gods, they will raise your spirit up, transforming you into a sort of demi-god. Then you will pass through another series of tests, more difficult than ever before. But the reward, when all is said and done, is the earning of godhood. You are transformed into one of them, given a place in their society. Many of these newly formed gods watch over groups of delfae, protecting them against all harm. As the gods grow in power, they take on larger challenges. Thus, the lowliest delfae has the chance to become the greatest god.

Many also beleive that the transformations do not start at being a delfae. The spirit begins at animal level, if not lower. Each transformation is earned through trials. A variation of this beleif is that each spirit goes through levels of animals- such as an insect, a fish, a small mammel, a domesticated animal, and of course a powerful lord animal, such as a lion.

A second variation of this beleif is that once these stages have been met of the animals, the spirit then progresses through the humanoids. Beginning at the lowest ones, the ones without magic, the spirit is given the opportunities to learn magic through all of the humanoids. Thus the delfae is concidered the highest life form, having the most natural ability and the least limitations of it use.

The results of this beleif is that each delfae feels that they have a duty of sorts to protect the lesser life forms, as one protects children. Many delfae will go out into harms way to do so, with the firm beleif that for the deed they will be rewarded, or at the very lest not be punished. Many delfae will also go out of their way to help other races learn, whether it be magic or anything else, to help fellow spirits in their progression.

They also beleive that knowing the god watching over you is a very important aspect to life, and many will go to great lengths to communicate with the spirits to discover who is their personal god. This god may be honored in special houses in the delfae's home, where occassional offerings are placed, to let the god know he is welcome in the delfae's life.

The gods of the delfae are honored with many festivals. Usually the delfae do not attempt to follow the progression of the spirits, as time functions differently for the gods, at least that is what the delfae beleive. Thus, the festivals are to the gods in general or specific jobs, but the names of the gods are not mentioned. Part of this also is that the names are just what the delfae call them, not the true names of the spirits, of which no delfae would utter, even if it were known.

The major gods protect each of the races and animals seperately, as well as areas of land. Gods protect and rule every part of the delfae's lives. There is a god for each talent of magic, and each skill one could learn.

These gods, when recalled by magic, come as spirits, but their speech is garbled and the delfae cannot understand them. Even the demi-gods are hard to understand. Only those spirits that are reuturned as delfae are able to speak as the delfae do. It is possible, then to speak to a spirit that is currently in a body, but it is harmful for the current body, so is avoided usually.

The delfaen religion is not something that is usually consuming, as the human religions can be. The single temple in Dur-brek is a place to honor the gods, to thank them for favors granted, to beseech their aid, and to seek forgiveness, but it is also a place to teach the young about the gods and the festivals, and it the center of every festival held in the district. The few who dedicate their lives to the church seek to assist all spirits in their progression, as well as reaching a personal level of spiritual purity that will release them from the constraints of the path all spirits take.
