Game Report - Changes on the Horizon!
- by  CD Mjollnir

Hello, everyone!

As you know, Telgard has gone through a number of changes in the last six months or so, and is going to go through a lot more.  Here is a list of things that have changed, things that are in progress, and things that will hopefully begin at the start of our next anniversary in March.

First of all, Character Applications have been going through a changing process in regards to standards of acceptance and the system itself.  Things have not been completely solved, but hopefully they will be soon.  The Creative Developers are toying with the idea of creating a database that would search for characters using the character name as a keyword and would eliminate the need for the Character Database forums (ick, popups!) as well as making a search for other characters easier.  Several people have volunteered their services in this regard, and we will notify them once Mac and I have decided on things.

NEW COMPENDIUM~
Currently in progress is a revision of the Telgard Webpages.  We're looking for a more user-friendly version that will allow people to navigate the site easily, in a simplified format so that all relevant information is in the same place instead of spread out over several different sources.  Among some of the changes will be a move of all the Compendium forums (save Flora and Fauna) onto the website; this will make space in the main forums as well as give the Compendium a more attractive format.  It's not simply moving the current information, either...a lot of things are being updated and revised so that they work together better.

Among the other changes players can expect from this revision:  a revised Magic system that emphasizes the roleplaying aspect and the inherent dangers of Magic; a revised religion section that includes 'Heretical Beliefs' as well as a detailed description of the Elven, Dwarven and Human sects of the Church of Telgard; and the codification and expansion of the Elite Guilds.  None of the changes will impact overmuch on current characters with the possible exception of the Non-Life magic skill which received a significant overhaul; however, the new skill ("Resonance") will incorporate much of the old skill's powers.  Characters that have the Non-Life magic skill and who are not pleased with the Resonance skill when it becomes official will be able to exchange that skill for another if they choose.  We hope to have this revision completed no later than March 1st, 2002.

For the future, we are also toying with the idea of a new Kingdom and have already sketched out a few details for the new race that would be discovered with the Kingdom.  This project is several months in the future and relies on several factors; first, that we have enough Moderators to support creating a new Kingdom without creating another moderator crisis, and second, that the current WW plot is finished, for the finish of the current Quest for the Clutch plot is what will discover the new area and the new race.  Tentatively, it will be a 'colonial' area, but we haven't worked out any details beyond that.  Chances are it won't be available for at least a year...considering the pace the current Clutch quest is going at, it may take considerably longer.

Lastly, in addition to the new website, we are going to have an area dedicated to fan art submitted by players and volunteers.  Interested parties are welcome to submit digital copies of their art to my email and it will be put up on the page for them.  It must ALL be original art, and it must be signed by the artist to be accepted.  It is protected by standard US copyright law, but we will have a disclaimer, something along the lines of "Images on this page are copyrighted by US law.  Permission has been granted to download and save these images for personal enjoyment only; resale, redistribution or alteration of these images in any way is strictly forbidden."

As always, suggestions on the improvement of the website, the game, the character application, or any other aspect of the Kingdoms of Telgard are always welcome, and can be e-mailed to me at cdmjollnir@yahoo.com.  All suggestions will be considered, but not all will be implemented.

We hope you are enjoying Telgard and we look forward to the new unveiling in the spring!

Ysiane...
- by  AGM Rule

(To the tune of "Mack the Knife")

The Black Drake, she has her teeth dear,
And they're there for all to see.
And Ysiane has her dagger,
But no one knows where it might be.

When the Drake bites with her teeth, dear,
Venom floods her victims' veins.
But Ysiane has her magic
So not a trace of them remains.

At a party, in the city,
An assassin threw his knife.
And Lord Ravl was left poisoned--
Did Ysiane want his life?

The assassin, Etherlendi,
As he made his getaway,
Saw the whole thing was a setup.
What did Ysiane have to say?

In a village by the border,
They knew Ysiane pretty well.
But just how is she remembered?
You can ask, but she won't tell.

North of Thornmist, in the swamp there,
Something strange is going down.
Seems they're looking for the Serpent,
Now that Ysiane's in town.

Well you'd better lock your doors, dear,
Now that Ysiane's in town.

Did You Know?
-  by CD Mac

- The delfae lifespan is twice that of humans.

- Dwarves MUST consume alchohol in order to remain healthy. This has to do with their unique metabolism which also requires the consumption of a huge amount of minerals.

- The most dangerous part of Tahnn is the horrible salt flats between Hasst and the Oasis of Ta'ess.

- There are no permanent roads or trails in Mirg. It seems the Big Green carefully monitors all traffic......to the doom of all who fail to meet her demands.

- The most common character history involves the death of at least one family member.

- The second most common character history involves revenge.
