An Elvish Ballad
- by
Aki'rythn
There once was a lad
Quite far from here
Searching, searching for his lassy dear.
"My Luna, my Luna!"
Called a passing Dove,
Searching, searching for his one True Love.
He followed this Dove
From low to high
Watching, watching his bird in the sky.
Caref'lly he tread,
With the Moon up above,
Searching, searching for his one True Love.
Gazing at the Moon
A crescent 'C'
Wondering, wondering where she be.
'Round a tree he passed,
Seeing his Dove,
Alighting, alighting 'pon his one True Love.
"Hark O Dove!
Who could this be?"
Knowing, knowing that it was she.
"My Luna, my Luna!"
She cried to He,
Happ'ly, happ'ly forever they'll be.

Another Elvish Ballad
- by GM Rowan
Once, there was a wand'ring youth
poor in rainment, rich in love,
who though he seemed lost in truth,
was but free as rain or sky,
and regrett'd not what passed him by;
From Enth'ryni his feet did take,
paths hidden from sky above,
through hidden dell and marshy break,
past peril true his way did lie,
his destin'd fate looming nigh;
One night soft by hidden brook,
shelt'rd by close rocky cove,
his heart was shatter'd with one look,
the Faerie Queen he did espy,
and escap'd his lips one fatal sigh.
By this point Aki recognised the melody;
it was a slight variation on a common folk ballad well
known across Lirynn. As she recognised this the
flautist began her part, voice soft and delicate:
|
Swift turned she to spy him then,
and in speaking sealed his doom,
"Mortal elf where none should pass,
that you should set foot here, alas!
For Faerie kind are not as thee,
if yet ye value life then flee!
For if linger here in sacred grove,
far from mortal lands shall ye rove,
and from this world ye shall lie clove."
In speaking stood she tall and proud,
starlit eyes and raven hair,
beauty's essence standing there,
And 'cross his eyes there fell a shroud,
He could not help but cry aloud:
Here the deep-voiced elf sang out once more:
"How shall I fly, oh lady fair,
when all I value standeth there?
What love have I for mortal lands?
My heart's desire before me stands."
Then the blond elfess took her part:
"Mortal elf, I beg thee now,
fly from this enchanted howe!
Else thy doom shall come to thee,
Prison'd straite for eternitie!"
The elf spoke again:
"I fear your warnings fly amiss,
My Lady of Eternal Bliss!
Let ages of the world abide,
My heart content here at your side."
Then the elfess launched her final verse:
Reaching out she touched his lips,
with tremb'ling immortal fingertips:
"So be it. Your doom is sealed.
Thy words hast caused my heart to yield."
Both singers then stood forth together:
"Fated, then, from that day to this,
until world sinks down into abyss,
Eternal lovers stand hand-in-hand,
forever guardians of this land,
ne'er to return to mortal strand.
